LED screens sometimes need maintenance, especially if they are installed outdoors. Replacement of the control system, LEDs,  power cable port, and other components are a few common issues. If they aren’t properly maintained, LED screens could burn out too soon. Additionally, they require cleaning and cooling-off measures.

We will provide you with some maintenance advice so that your LED display will last a long time and function admirably every day. If you plan on running maintenance on LED screens for your business or if you are curious to know what you are paying workers for, this guide is for you.

Elements of LED Screen Maintenance
  • Cleaning

Before maintenance takes place, workers clean the surface and any relevant components of the screen. Workers will vacuum, carefully wash, and dry your LED screen to prepare for maintenance and repair.

  • Examination of Components

The basic components, wiring, internal circuits, installation modules, and other hardware needs to be examined annually for the first 5 years of the screen’s operation. Workers look for structural damage and other things.

  • Basic Operations

Workers will look at the function of the main circuits. They will then identify issues and suggest solutions to ensure proper use and perfect display effect at a later stage.

  • Repair

Finally, repair involves taking the screen’s LED modules apart, applying new or fixed parts, and putting everything back together. Different issues require different repairs, but our specialists will help you.

Cleaning LED Screens

When cleaning an LED display, caution should be used. Below we include a few advice tips for cleaning your LED screens.

-Avoid applying excessive pressure to a particular point of the wall to prevent damage

-Always move in broad, sweeping motions and avoid stopping in one place

-Choose the right cleaning liquid, which often comprises electrolytes, high-purity distilled water, anti-static liquid, etc., to ensure effective cleaning of screen dust and other stains.

LED Screen Maintenance Checklist

-Check alternating current sub-distribution and fuses

-Check LED circuit boards, signal ducts & distribution

-Adjust voltage on power supplies

-Check software and communication

-Check DVI/HDMI signals, controls, dimmers, and PC hardware

-Check mechanics (screws, hinges, locks) and EMC

-Check the backup system

-Examine image quality (flicker, color, brightness, pixel integrity) and homogeneity

-Check ventilation filters

LED Screen Circuit Repair

To detect a short circuit during LED screen maintenance several methods are used. These methods are resistance detecting, voltage detecting, and voltage drop detecting. Usually, the value a multimeter shows will be drastically different from the regular value. Then, the site of the short circuit should be repaired.

LED Screen Module Repair

If there is a conflicting color or some rows/modules are dead, workers examine the first aberrant LED module’s signal contact in the direction of the signal input. If the entire screen is not working, the PCB board may need replacing. If one row is out, then the driver IC may be faulty.

LED Screen Pixel Repair

Sometimes, individual pixels need to be replaced. This can be done by replacing the according LED lamp bead. There are different techniques for front access and back access, so make sure to communicate the type of LED screen to the workers.

LED Screen Communication Repair

Many communication issues like the screen going black, the image/video displaying in a garbled way, low brightness, disordered or overlapping displays, non-synchronous displaying with the computer, or loading failure have to do with faulty cables or control cards. This can be easily replaced.

Main LED Screen Maintenance Advice
  • Temperature: LED screens work best at an ambient temperature of <30℃.
  • Humidity: LED screens work best at a humidity level of <60%. Otherwise, the components start to corrode, and short circuits become more likely.
  • Pests: Ensure that the LED screen will not suffer from mouse or rat bites. Use rodenticide or pest control for that.
  • Power: Ensure good grounding of the power source and protect it from electrical surges.
  • Dust: Dust will settle on the internal control device’s surface, lowering its heat conductivity and insulating capabilities. In humid conditions, dust will absorb the moisture in the air and result in a short circuit and a potential fire hazard. Dust can also harbor mold spores that will compromise the performance of your LED screen. Therefore, cleaning LED displays plays a crucial role in maintenance.
  • Sequence: LED screens have a certain sequence of operating that ensures a longer lifetime. When you are either turning the screen on or off, the control computer should go first, and then the screen itself.
  • Luminance: Avoid leaving the screen fully illuminated for an extended period of time to prevent damaging the LED bulbs and overheating the power line, which would shorten the screen’s lifespan.
  • Usage: It is advised to give large LED display screens more than two hours of rest each day. In general, leave the screen on for no less than 2 hours at least once every month. Don’t leave the LED display off for too long. If the screen hasn’t been used for more than three days in a humid environment, turn it on by preheating it first for 4 to 12 hours.
  • Circuits: Check your LED display panel frequently to determine if it functions normally and to rule out any circuit damage. Replace it as soon as possible if it breaks. To preserve ventilation, heat dissipation, and reliable computer performance, place the primary control computer and other relevant equipment in air-conditioned and dust-free rooms.
  • Fastening: LED screens use a lot of energy. Terminals of the power source and signal terminals will become loose as a result of the change in the heat after operating for a while and being repeatedly turned on and off. As a result, constant tightening of the LED display connector is required. When adjusting fasteners, use balanced and adequate strength while preserving the inherent effectiveness.
